Music

The Blue Point Congregational UCC’s music program is a “work in progress”; ever growing and enhanced by choirs, vocal and instrumental soloists and special services planned with traditional and contemporary styles of music and worship in combination.  We encourage participation by anyone who wishes to sing in a variety of choirs, inclusive of all ages.  Also, instrumentalists are incorporated into a group or invited to play solo.  We have much to choose from and will find a way to include all levels of talent offered.

Our adult choir meets Thursday evenings @7PM, September into June and the Sunday School children and youth usually participate in a joint choir effort for special seasons of signing such as Christmas and Easter.  The adult choir also carols locally, practices from time to time at local Health Care Facilities and residential homes.  From time to time, just the men gather to sing a special anthem.  The choir’s “road-trip” last summer took them out to the Union Church in Biddeford Pool.  While the choir takes a summer rest, our 2 organists continue to provide special anthems and service music each Sunday and soloists help out!

Nancy Landsman, music director and organist and Everett Henry, organist, share playing weekly service music for our regular 9:30AM service.  Nancy, a member of the Portland Chapter, American Guild of Organists, directs, accompanies and arranges for the choir, plays for weddings and funerals and prepares solosits.

Everett, a member of the Pine Tree Chapter, American Theater Organ Society, plays on the 2nd/5th Sunday of the month and is our “in-house” technical care person for our Austin organ when emergencies arise in between servicing by Nick Orzo’s professional service.

More info regarding our Austin organ can be found here and at Blue Point we are still celebrating ‘the year of the pipe organ’ as declared by the International Guild of Organists, ’08-’09.

As the y ear moves along we anticipate several joint musical events involving the church of our cluster in Scarborough.  On May 31st, Pentecost evening, we will host a festival of song, scripture, prayers and spirit filled fellowship.  “LET THE SPIRIT IN” begins at 7PM, will be open to the public and the offering will be giving to benefit Project Grace.  Again, in the fall, we are hoping to host the EcumenicalThanksgiving service.  At both of these events we will enjoy a large, joint choir with singers from all churches participating.  Mark your calendars and plan to attend!

Music at Blue Point is alive and well and always praising God for the oppurtonity to sing to His honor and glory!!  Come join us!
