Good things come in small packages and that includes our church. Everyone participates and everyone belongs. I am very excited about our ministry and hope we can be a support to your faith and journey in Christ. We, the Blue Point Church, are about individuals exploring our faith in the context of a caring community. No one is expected to fit in a mold. Rather, we celebrate our differences and use the variety of gifts that each person has to praise and work for the glory of God. No matter who, no matter what, no matter where you are on life’s journey you are invited and welcomed here. We have a congregation that isn’t afraid of thinking and exploring things in order to make relevant our faith for our day. Our faith may be 2,000 years old, but our thinking is not. Worship is about our hearts as well as our minds. We worship with quality music of different types styles and times which includes the children and youth as well as adults. We incorporate other arts to make the message come alive. For example, we use reader theater, puppets, and the artists among us will create our bulletin cover. Often by the end of the service the whole congregation will have participated through such things as creative responses, readings, even gestures. I, myself, always, aim to give sermons that you can remember during the week, that you can help you get through the week, and make the week a little more worth living. Sunday school is about helping our children develop a life long faith that they can use. We cherish each child. We recognize their talents, gifts and learning styles. We give them a variety of experiences that go way beyond “cutting and pasting” the whole hour. These include music, professional artists, mission activities, movies, field trips, puppets, and stories. We have great kids and feel blessed that we are part of their faith journey. Our church is part of a denomination, the United Church of Christ, that has been at the forefront of many social movements that have profoundly changed who we are as a country and society. We believe that the persistent search for God produces an authentic relationship with God, engendering love, strengthening faith, dissolving guilt, and giving life purpose and direction. What sums it up the best for me is the hymn we sing every month when we celebrate communion. The lyrics go, Come to the banquet, there’s a place for you. Though you maybe have no money, though you may be feel unworthy, in your strength or in your weakness you are welcome come.” (“Come to the Banquet,” words and music by Fay White) |
